There are many different places you can receive help in this class. The TAs and I have structured this class with the goal that when you find you need help, it is not too far away!
This is a source of 24/7 help. It might even already have the answer to your question because someone else already asked it! Moreover, students can help each other so feel free to answer questions yourself if you know the answer.
This is a great place to get one-on-one help from a UTA. Moreover, the room is already booked, so you should feel free to go to just do your work. There is no need to arrive with a question.
Prof. KSM can not only provide one-on-one help on the material, but also discuss how the class is going as a whole and how to approach it more effectively. Also, if you have questions about CS, major/minoring, or things beyond the class, she is happy to discuss them.
This is for a private one-on-one tutoring session with a grad TA. Fill out the appointment form on the Forms tab to request a meeting. Here you can discuss any course concepts or assignments that are not due this week. The latter requirement is to encourage you to start early!
If you need to discuss something privately with Prof. KSM, the easiest way is to request a private appointment using the form on the Forms tab. These appointments are best for discussing how an exam went, how the class is going overall, and ways to approach the class more efficiently.
Meeting with Yesenia is kind of like meeting with Prof. KSM. She can also discuss any concerns you may have with the course or your progress.
The Academic Resource Center (ARC) runs group tutorials for CS101. If you need a structured weekly meet to discuss the course content, this is a great resource.
The UTAs run similar tutorial groups for the students after the first midterm. This is another opportunity to get structured weekly help with a small group of peers.
If you are finding that you are struggling in this class or with school in general and need someone to dive deep into how you are learning, a learning consultant is a great option. They are like a learning coach (similar to how you might get a sports coach to improve at a sport). They are a free resource at the ARC and there are many to choose from. You can go to them via their drop-in hours or register for an appointment on their website.
Email Yesenia (yvelasco AT cs.duke.edu) for a list of private tutors. This list is not vetted for quality, but it is provided on request.
