Exams

The midterm exam is on Wednesday, October 24, during the regular lecture period.

The final exam is set by the Duke registrar for Wednesday, December 12, starting at 9am. It will be two hours in length.

Both exams are in the Levine Science Research Center (LSRC), room B101 (Love Auditorium).

This Science Magazine article is critical of machine learning, part of which is based on gradient descent. The argument, while valid, applies mainly to very recent developments in the field. Hopefully, you will help address these shortcomings with your research!

This course covers fundamental concepts of supervised machine learning, with sample algorithms and applications. It focuses on how to think about machine learning problems and solutions, rather than on a systematic coverage of techniques.

The class meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:05am to 11:20am in the Levine Science Research Center (LSRC), room B101 (Love Auditorium).
