Re: Group Project Developent using MS Visual Studio tools?
alex- mmmm...... i dunno about that one. there are some pretty big
differences between the platforms. if you notice in the syllabus, we have a
section on interfacing with the unix environment, and later some stuff on
java networking that i seriously doubt will be anywhere close to the same on
microsoft platforms.
but there is an answer.....
linux!
i was part of a group of a few people in cps100e that got really sick of
waiting in line in the computer labs and got everything to work under linux.
all we had to do was recompile the library for all the tapestry stuff that
astrachan wrote, and make some Makefile changes, and everything worked
beautifully. people who wish to do that this year will (hopefully) not even
have to worry about all the astrachan stuff. if not, i have a precompiled
library (libtapestry.a) that everyone is welcome to have.
for everyone that doesn't know, linux is free. you're welcome to borrow my
cds if you want.
also, since your PC is probably networked, you can run AFS, which is how all
your files are the same on all of the acpub machines. it is tricky to get
to work, but it is very possible. this way you can actually work out of
your acpub directory in linux....
anyway, enough rambling. back to math, and see you all in class tomarrow.
