Computer Science A poem by Divya Dhulipala, netID dd135 I thought you were going to be a cakewalk When I got all greens on my first APTs But then came Pancakes and Piglatin And I started to see things differently 11:59 PM submissions one minute to deadline Starting assignments they day they are due Skipping classes to finish before midnight Getting it right but not enjoying the view I’m not good at logic, at maps, or at puzzles So this critical thinking business was hard But when I did get things right in my own time Gosh dang it, I felt like a star All those reading quizzes I did once they turned red I had one chance to get all the answers right But that just gave me incentive to actually learn And I got perfect scores every time Come exam time I’d reread the entire textbook And do a few practice exams But nothing can prevent the nervous breakdowns The bit lip, bit nails, and clammy hands Comp sci takes discipline, this anyone can know And I wish that I had this in bulk But I put lots of effort in and gave it my best So there really is no reason to sulk If Python is for baby coders And harder languages come next I’ll only tackle this one awful beast And I’ll take a much-deserved rest I learned a lot of things I never thought I’d learn And did a lot of things I never thought I’d do And now I have considerable bragging rights To say “comp sci 101, I learned you.”
