Compsci 101 ro43 Rina Okachi I enrolled in Computer Science 101 because my parents stated that knowing how to code would provide career opportunities. Initially, I was hesitant about enrolling in this course because I was not interested in computer science. But after completing this course, I realized that I really enjoy the subject material. Professor Susan Rogers clearly explained the course material in an engaging way that piqued my interest in this discipline. Even though many of the assignments were difficult and required many hours of labor to complete, I feel as though the effort was worthwhile because I have learned a very valuable skill. During the first few weeks of the semester, I was very unfamiliar with the course material and would take days to receive green marks on each APT. This process was very frustrating and caused me to attend UTA office hours almost every day for assistance. Because the problems were so difficult to solve, I became one of the regular visitors. But when I would complete an APT in its entirety, I would become so elated that I would fill out the REDEME forms with pride. I also became friends with my Python tutor who would show me what I was doing incorrectly and provide guidance so I could eventually solve the APTs autonomously. Now that the semester is over, I am able to complete most of the APTs without going to UTA office hours because I have a much stronger command over the concepts expounded during class. I am very proud of my progress, and I look forward to showing my parents my new skills when I go home for winter break.
